With nearly two billion active users, Facebook is an excellent way to advertise your business and give your company a Web presence if you don’t have your own website.   • No limits: As your business grows, so does your customer base. Personal Facebook accounts limit the number of friends you can have, whereas a business page can have unlimited fans.
  • Advertising: Facebook advertising is a great way to reach customers who have never heard of your business. Advertising isn’t available to personal accounts, so a business page is definitely the way to go if you want to reach a broader audience.

Posting on Facebook is an excellent opportunity to tell your customers what kind of business you are, what you believe in, and what you sell or install. The trick here is that HOW you post is almost always more important than WHAT you post; that is, be consistent.

Try your best to post the same amount of content each day, around the same time of day. Doing so will teach your customers when to expect content from you. If you only randomly post material, your fans will have a difficult time following your content stream and may lose interest altogether. Chances are good that many of your customers (and potential customers!) have Instagram accounts, so the social media platform is a great way to tell them who you are, what you believe in, and what you sell or install.

Getting Started

  • Download the Instagram app from the App Store (for iOS), Google Play store (for Android), or Windows Phone Store (for Windows).
  • Open the newly downloaded app and tap Sign Up. Enter your business email address and tap Next (or you can log in using Facebook if you already have a Facebook business account).
  • Once you’ve signed up and your account is active, go to the app Settings and scroll down until you see Switch to Business Account. Select this option.
  • After designating your account for business, the app will allow you to enter in pertinent business information like store hours, phone number, and physical address.

Instagram is one of today’s most visually oriented social media platforms, so you’re going to need pictures! Be creative and use photos to let your customers know why they should buy from you instead of your competition.

Post unique photos that capture your physical business, employees, projects, and satisfied customers (with permission, of course!). The most important rule is to post consistently. That is, do your best to post each day, around the same general time. Being consistent gives your fans something to look forward to. If you just post here and there, they may lose interest.

Finally, follow other businesses like yours and big industry names to see what kinds of photos they post. Though you should never steal their content, they can inspire you to create your own powerful and unique posts.
