CURT (17500): TruTrack Weight-Distribution Hitch with Sway Control

With the TruTrack weight-distribution hitch from CURT, no extra sway-control technology is needed. This advanced weight-distribution system has sway control built right into the hitch to deliver the smoothest, safest ride possible. And when you consider the ease of setup, you’ve got towing gold.

Another feature that sets apart the CURT TruTrack is its use of heavy-duty, adjustable support brackets to attach to the trailer frame instead of spring bar chains. This design resists side-to-side movement to provide more optimal alignment. The unique spring and cam system builds up pressure to stop sway, then relaxes to allow drivers to make smooth turns.

As mentioned earlier, CURT designed the TruTrack to be a breeze to install. Instead of fumbling with frustrating washers, users will love the system of interlocking nuts and preset holes that allow specific tilt angles for simpler adjustment. Even better, you don’t have to disassemble the hitch head to make those adjustments like you do with less advanced products.

The 17500 kit includes the shank, trailer ball, spring bars, head, support brackets, pin, and clip.

CURT (17501): TruTrack Trunnion Bar Weight-Distribution System

CURT (17501): TruTrack Trunnion Bar Weight-Distribution System

Unlike many weight distribution hitches, which achieve compatibility through a sway-control attachment, the TruTrack system from CURT integrates the sway-control function into the design of the hitch itself to deliver a smooth, safe ride.

A unique spring and cam system accumulates pressure to actively stop sway—and then relaxes to make smooth turns. Like all weight-distribution hitches, the 17501 uses a pair of spring bars to leverage the trailer tongue weight and spread it across all axles of the vehicle-trailer combination; however, instead of using spring bar chains, the TruTrack connects to the trailer frame via adjustable, heavy-duty support brackets that hold the spring bars in place laterally and vertically. This design resists the side-to-side movement common to regular spring bars to help maintain trailer alignment.

TruTrack offers the same great quality as CURT’s other weight-distribution hitches, with the addition of hardened cam components that are less subject to wear. CURT stands behind this product with a 10-year limited warranty.

Features

  • Gross trailer weight: 10,000–15,000 lb.
  • Tongue weight: 1,000–1,500 lb.
  • Durable carbide powdercoat.
  • Hex castle nut for easy trailer swaps.
  • Two neutral bar settings: narrow and wide A-frame.
  • Fixed support brackets hold the spring bars in place laterally and vertically.
  • Pre-torqued 2-5/16″ trailer ball.
  • Cam springs build up pressure for integrated sway control.
  • Actively controls trailer sway and levels the vehicle-trailer combination.
  • Twelve-inch adjustable shank fits 2” x 2” receiver tubes.
  • Brackets use friction to resist lateral movement.
  • Trunnion-style, forged-steel spring bars.
  • Cast head and hardened cams provide solid attachment and resist wear.
  • Ten-year limited warranty.

CURT’s TruTrack™ Hitch Is One Heavy Hitter

by John M. Arnaud

The weight-distribution trunnion hitch just got served. CURT Manufacturing, a leading producer of towing products, today announced its new TruTrack™ hitch (17500), which offers advanced design features that deliver the smoothest, safest ride on the market.

The TruTrack resists trailer sway in a couple of different ways. First, whereas most traditional weight-distribution hitches use regular spring bars to connect to the trailer frame, the TruTrack features a pair of trunnion-style spring bars and heavy-duty, adjustable support brackets, which are set at fixed positions by the user and hold the spring bars in place, both vertically and laterally.

Second, the TruTrack uses an integrated spring/cam system instead of standard pins and bolts. This CURT innovation builds up pressure to actively stop sway and then relaxes to make smooth turns. Hardened components achieve longer life, while a hex castle nut enables easy adjustment and fits most industry-standard couplers.

Another big benefit of the TruTrack system is the installation: instead of relying on a pile of washers and pins, this CURT weight-distribution hitch uses a pair of interlocking nuts and preset holes that offer specific angles and on-the-fly adjustment—no more tilt-angle guesswork or disassembling the hitch head.
